The research at the top of the page that you give is from 2011 - out of date.
I agree that not everyone can listen to audiobooks but that does not mean that it isn't a worthy medium for people who a) enjoy it and b) cannot read themselves due to physical or learning disability. It is a well documented fact that dyslexics are better at comprehending texts presented aurally rather than orthographically.
Reading is not superior to listening and comprehension occurs via both mediums equally.
