Actually the bombarding during the Second WW -
Coventry Blitz of 1940 by the German Luftwaffe destroying a Gothic church later designated cathedral, was the only clue in my mind.
And yes, I too feel very embarrassed when some visitor asks me any local address in my city, which I am mostly not aware of.
