There's some problem when a tileset has been edited. All tiles ride on top of the tile to their right in edited tilesets, which destroys all depth perception on higher res kindles.
gnome2 tileset has low depth to begin with, which actually results in much less of a problem when it is resized.
This is the same roadblock I hit when trying to resize whichever tileset comes first alphabetically. That one had good depth, though not as good as thick tileset. I tried editing that one for a couple of hours, but all edited tilesets resulted in a total loss of depth perception, with all tiles riding on top of the tile to their right.

If you look closely at your screenshot, you'll see that tiles are overlapping whichever tile lies to their right and that's mainly what's causing a loss of the already limited depth in gnome2 tileset.
