Have you tried rebooting the kindle? My kindle recently stopped being recognized by my computer but it was charging properly. A reboot of the kindle fixed it for me as it wasn't a hardware fault.
Thanks, sure I tried a few reboots, for me I am 100% certain it is hardware, I can see
I'm surprised it even charges
