I currently am doing about 40% of my reading on my phone and the rest on an e-ink device, Kindle or Kobo. I find that I read faster on the phone. It's a bit harder on my eyes so I read longer on e-ink. I usually read in short burts on the phone when I'm away from home.
I once read that newspaper columns are narrow to encourage fast reading; that their width was picked as the result of some sort of study that determined narrow columns help us read faster. I've since read that other studies have shown mixed results so I think the jury is still out on that but it kind of seems right to me.
