I do have a (disassembled) KT-3, but I can't make any promises about when/if I will have time to troubleshoot this problem.
Nope, it is a KT2 not a KT3.

I did re-read my own instructions - that 'Reset (to factory defaults)' has to stay - it is the thing which gets the /var/local database files ready for an older firmware version.

Hmm...
Which currently on the KT-3 does not need to be done -
The KT-3 can only be running customer-5.8.0, -5.8.1, or -5.8.2 so factory-5.8.0 should not choke on an existing database.

Maybe another 'special case' (like the pw-2) in the directions for the KT-3?
