Thanks for the help everyone. With ssh access, this kindle still has a purpose (I can add books via ssh etc) - so I am just trying to log in.

Yes, no usb data.
I have KUAL, the usbnet extension, I can enable/disable, reset the usbnet settings, all that stuff.

I think I tried to log in using 'framework', but maybe I didn't try a blank password... I'll try that now, thanks.
(edit - didn't work)

I can't really do any hardware modification to this, it would cost some money to set up and beyond my level of expertise! (If I could I'd be happy to.)

knc1 - I think telnet is usb only, although I'll double check.

I have no kterm, no skipstone.

Honestly, is my idea of trying to change the root password via the 'search bar' a bad idea? I read it in some thread here.
(I don't mean to keep going on about it!)
I didn't any of you mention it, I would have though it would be perfect to use now - yet as I said it didn't seem to work! But I have a feeling it is because I disabled password auth in the usbnet config.
Is that a valid concern, is it possible to disable pass auth in the config?
