When you delete/rename your Kobo eReader.conf and let Kobo re-create it from scratch, it's back to normal (you have to select language and configure everything else again, it won't delete your files). However this doesn't stick, after a reboot or two it's back to bananas.

If this is caused by the fatpatch mod, which seems likely at this point (?) my only theory is that those magic bytes Kobo is writing to the boot sector, is not just a firmware reset counter, but also some kind of hidden feature settings bitflag place.

Or it just triggers some hidden firmware bugs.
My sleep screen doesn't look like that. Everything looks ok except the current progress is gone, and the screensaver section in settings->sleep and power is also gone.

Actually I decided to factory reset my device and now dealing with another problem (can't seem to format to the way both Windows 10 AU & kobo like). I do have the backup, so if I can restore it to the previous state I'll report back.
