Although I liked the look of the white one better, I finally went with the black one.

I asked the store to unbox a white one for me, booted it up and put it next to the black display model, cranking up the backlight to maximum on both of them. The text background on the black model seemed noticeably whiter than that of the white model.

An optical illusion, for sure, as the screen hardware is identical, but I thought that noticing the more off-white tone of the text background on the white model (as badgoodDeb suggested) would distract me more when reading.

Looking forward to playing with my new toy!
