In the U.S. copyright for works published in 1962 never had to be renewed -- the 1978 rewrite of the copyright law extended copyright terms for all works which were then in copyright and removed the necessity of renewing the copyright. The existing copyrights were all extended to a total of 75 years and then extended by the Sony Bono Law (nicknamed the Mickey Mouse Law) which extended existing copyrights to 95 years total.
