The use of Fiction is not wrong.

IMHO it is redundant in most cases A screen/file space waster.

Is this another holdover from the days of shelving paper books?

Fiction, Mystery It is a Mystery (The Fiction is Implied)
Non-Fiction, Mystery for those special cases that ARE NOT Fiction
eg The Disappearance of Dinosaurs
