Kobo use their own format downloaded to the device or the desktop application. It is basically an epub with extra markup that Kobo uses. They also use their own DRM. The book you have imported is DRM protected.

You have two choices. The Obok plugin that is part of the Apprentice Alf's tools will import the books from the desktop application library and remove the DRM for any that have it. You need to make sure it is up to date as Kobo have changed the encryption key a couple of times.

The way I do it is to download the epub version from the library that is part of the Kobo store. This lists all books you have purchased from them. Using this version has the advantage that it doesn't have the extra markup that Kobo adds.
