The first two books are fun, but it's in the third and fourth books that I think Butcher really hits his stride with character development and worldbuilding.

You can also purchase books 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10 as audiobooks, read by James Marsters (the actor who portrayed Spike on Buffy/Angel). He does a fairly good job, although there are some words that he does not pronounce correctly, which is irritating.
