Multiple reports implies it must be something Kobo-specific, though I cannot imagine how MS would mess something like that up.

But, the evidence is that MS have messed it up. The Kobo devices are not working with the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. Why, I don't know. But, as Kobo have not released a firmware update since January, it must be something MS have changed.

Perhaps, on par with his usual observed anti-Kindle partisan tendencies, he is trying (consciously or subconsciously) to create a local mindset that Kindles have this problem, in order to counter the upcoming bad press for Kobo products if this doesn't get fixed really soon?
I can't think of another logical explanation for why he is specifically calling out the Kindle despite the problem reports specifically calling out the Kobo.

Yes, Jon should not have included Kindles in his list if he didn't have any evidence. But there are reports of for non-Kobo devices not working, so giving a warning to others is a reasonable thing to do.
