Maybe I should have said, "Abraham Lincoln unilaterally decided that states can't withdraw from the Union,
and get by with it, even if they joined voluntarily." ha
So, the federal government didn't honor, in the past, the caveat that Texas could exit the Union if it wanted to?
I don't know why my Texas history is so weak. Looks like elementary schools that I was in in Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky would have covered it. ha (actually, it seems like I learned about the history of
none of those three states--I moved from one state to another before a school year that it was going to be in the curriculum, a time or two. By the time that I started elementary school in Kentucky, one of the earlier grades had already covered Kentucky history. My sister may have fared better; in fact, she may have hit it just right and got Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky history!).
