This week's download is Brahms Ballade No. 1--Andante, Op. 10.

This "is the first of Brahms's Four Ballades, Op. 10, performed by British pianist Paul Lewis. The recording, which won a five-star review in the June issue of BBC Music Magazine also features Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1, performed with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Daniel Harding.

'Lewis and Harding strive for an ideal balance between Brahms's Romantic and Classical aspects,' writes Erik Levi. 'They encapsulate the contrasting modes of defiance and lyricism'."

You may recall that all of Classical-music.com's free downloads (all that I've received, anyway) are in the MP3 format.
