I wasn't aware of that, but in my opinion that promise wouldn't be worth 2 cents if Texas really were to try to secede. Our federal government has lied plenty of times about things like that before. Shall I look up and list some of the treaties with the Indians that it made and then violated?

It's all a moot point, anyway. The political climate in Texas and/or the rest of the United States would have to change really, really radically in order for secession to be seriously considered.
