Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. Came into existence sometime in the early 1700s, and was then superceded by The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - or United Kingdom, or UK, for short. That came into being in the early 1800s.

I could google and the exact dates...

As an aside, Ireland is technically two countries as Northern Ireland is part of the UK and the Republic of Ireland/Eire is a completely politically (although obviously not physcially) separate country. Many people confusingly tend to use Ireland to refer the Republic of Ireland as well as the island...
