Any script you find here is probably intended to be run on the Kindle.

Ideally I would like to have a batch file that would convert all the images in a directory to a usable format. I tried to write one, but failed miserably.

Why in the world .... ?

Write a script file that runs on the Kindle.
It can probably be done as a single line command.

Since you give zip, zero, nada amount of information about your programming background, I can't know what to write that might help you.
