This is the tutorial I followed.
We do not have any Kindle nickname of 'K7' and there is more than one '7th. generation' model, but the answer is the same:

There is no need (your unit is heading for the recycle bin as soon as it is unpacked), but if you feel that you must. . . .

Use the uninstall_*.bin of any add-ins you have added.
Use the 'Reset (to factory defaults)' menu entry.
Update the Kindle to the current firmware version.
In that specific order.
