A bunch of Bookshot titles turned up when I was looking through what was new at the library a few weeks ago. It looked like they were all romances and my preferred genre is mysteries, plus I generally prefer longer books, so I passed.

I did read the first few books of Patterson's Alex Cross series a while back (maybe these were from back when he was still writing them himself?), but the plots were too wild for my taste. In addition to all the weird killers, crazy stuff happened in Alex's personal life, like
Spoiler:
Alex's girlfriend got kidnapped and turned up a year later, having had his baby
. At the end of the last book I read, there was an excerpt from the next book indicating
Spoiler:
there was going to be a man-eating tiger
- that was too over-the-top for me and I quit on the series. I like my police stories to be more realistic, like Michael Connelly's Bosch series.
