You raise a very valid point:

Why do we have data, but no online fora? Why are there no gymnasia, condominia, or aquaria in this country?! I want to know how we can be so glib about Latinised Greek!

Please note: I am not being silly. I simply cannot see how we can decline datum, quantum, and phenomenon, but cast aside the other remnants of classical language.


On a separate note, at Steve & DixieGal--

There is no reason for me or anyone else to hold your beliefs in any high regard. Granted, it may be rude to point out someone else's foibles, but it is no more or less protectable than poor grammar or spelling.
