@whoelzl - calibre-server is undergoing a major redevelopment, so the current version won't be enhanced.
FWIW - by default the Date column is the date that the book was added to the library, however if that's irrelevant to you (as it is with me) then re-purpose it to mean 'date read' (you can't change its name). When I add 'books', I clear the Date in bulk metadata edit, I then use it in tracking 'progress' through my 'workflow'.
