It's Tuesday, so it's Classical-music.com's day to give us a free MP3 download. And they don't disappoint us. This week it's Liszt's 'Wilde Jadg'.

This week’s free download is Franz Liszt’s Etude No. 8 'Wilde Jagd' (Wild Hunt) from his 12 Transcendental Etudes. The title refers to a common legend in European folklore, but it’s not a bunch of hunters chasing their prey, it’s about a hoard of ghost riders chasing us to oblivion. In some German versions of the story, as the ghosts ride by hollering and screaming, sometimes beautiful music is also heard, something that’s then considered a good omen, even when the rest of the story is rather ominous.

Kirill Gerstein says: 'as in the rest of the Transcendental Etudes cycle, here Liszt manages to combine incredible virtuosic challenges with impressionistic tone-painting, poetical lyricism and the romantic fascination with the otherworldly'.
