Not everyone has a PW3, Voyage or Oasis.
The idea of the cloud is so a person can access their documents on whatever device they are on. Just because one person uses it ONLY for books does not mean everyone else does.
But yes by all means let's change excel and pictures to kfx. Let's just make the documents unaccessible to most people because a few people want a certain format for their expensive device. Because I am sure the few buy enough to keep Amazon going.

Delivering the best format to devices that can handle that format does not preclude users of older devices from using the service with an older format if still available. Case in point: dual-mobis appear as azw3-type files on Kindles from at least KTouch onward, but download to Kindle 1 and 2 as regular old mobis.
There is absolutely no technological limit to holding kfx files in readiness for those devices that can handle them. On another note: PDFs, .docs and other files are already changed from their original formatting (optional for PDFs) and converted into Kindle-readable files.
I really do not get why you would find that ridiculous.
