A movie quiz: each of these sets of three movies has something in common. Please identify what that something is.

1.
Shine (1996) [Piano Concerto No. 3]
Brief Encounter (1945) [Piano [Concerto No. 2]
Birdman (2014)
- The use of music by Rachmaninoff. Bookpossum. 1 point for correct link; 2 bonus points for identifying the particular piece of music in Shine and Brief Encounter.

2.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Syriana (2005)
The Fighter (2010)

3.
The Thirty-Nine Steps (1935)
Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)
The Pink Panther (1963) [John Le Mesurier]
- Each includes an actor who later appeared in "Dad's Army". Orlok 1 point for correct link; 1 bonus point for Le Mesurier.

Notes:
- I imagine they all have quite a few things in common, but in each case I'm after something in particular. As is usual, the quizmaster's decision is final.
- each set has something different in common. One is reasonably easy (IMO); the other two, not so much.

Clues will be forthcoming as necessary.
