Ready for another download of
free classical music?
I know that it's hard to keep track of the different classical music websites with free downloads. This one is Classical-music.com's, they offer a new free download weekly, and it is in MP3.
This week's
freebie is
'Allegro Assai' from Mozart's String Quartet in B flat major. Here's some more info:
. . . . Mozart confessed he worked long and hard on his six string quartets dedicated to his idol Haydn, perhaps wondering if he could match the character of the older composer's themes and vigour of argument. They are some of the most richly textured and lustrous sounding quartets ever, and they have rarely sounded more beautiful than in this recording by the Hagen quartet.
The disc was BBC Music Magazine
Chamber Choice in April. 'The recording is intimate, as though we are seated in a salon a few feet from the performers,' writes Bayan Northcott. 'The players bring an astonishing variety of vibrato, nuance and colour to this performance.'
