Harriet Martineau devoted a chapter in her book
Retrospect of Western Travel to 'Originals ... men and women who ... think, speak, and act ... in a different way from the generality of men.' One of them was Noah Worcester, who 'devoted his powers to the promotion of Peace principles, and the establishment of Peace Societies in America.'
The text was taken from the nonresistance.org website, which has a marvellous collection of public domain material on peace and peacemaking in HTML and pdf formats. I have corrected a typo, and made some minor changes to the markup for this ebook.
