Giving the user the appropriate reading app for their OS may not be to everyone's liking, but it probably qualifies as a "comprehensible reason".

No, that does not explain in any comprehensible manner why they tore down the old per-platform pages, redirected them ALL to a shared splash screen, and then instead of giving you an appropriate link for your platform, ask you for your phone number so they can text you the link instead.
