I don't know if this will achieve what the OP needs, but you can disable screensavers by feeding them an invalid image file. Simply install the Screensaver hack, then replace the included default picture with an empty .png file.
The Kindle will still go to sleep and turn off the light, but the screen will stay on whatever you were you looking at.
