Must have been software, I've never known a broken solder joint to fix itself.
The "broken" jack was my justification for buying a new 7 inch Fire tablet, which arrived today. I was moving some music onto the tablet and checking it out, when I tried the phone jack again. LOL I guess the phone "knew" I was meant to have a tablet, once that was accomplished, it could start working again. (Go ahead and laugh, I'm laughing at myself too.)
BTW, the phone audio quality is much better than the tablet with headphones, although the tablet will certainly be good enough to use in the car.
