Yes, this is different.
Most of the e-ink devices have plastic surface on the top of the screen. Not mirror smooth surface but a matte one.

Voyage and a few other top-of-the-line have glass as the topmost layer.
The glass on Voyage is micro-etched, so it is very smooth to display crisp font outlines, yet it doesn't function as a mirror.
