Apparently it's because calibre always stores Comments as HTML and Bookari only supports (wrongly) plain text in the internal OPF <dc:description> field.

There is another recent thread about this but I can't remember which subforum it was in. Someone (I think it was Terisa de morgan) has created a utility to assist in converting the HTML Comments to plain text.

I also use Bookari to read books but I totally ignore it's library facilities because the Calibre Companion Android app is superior in every way for these purposes. Needless to say, Calibre Companion does not have the above problem with Comments.
