Sorry, this was my mistake. I got 2 different computers mixed up; they have different versions of Ubuntu.
Repositories can be great in terms of convenience, and I use them for a number of different programs. But I also tend to want stability over bleeding edge in terms of the operating system, which means I only update when a new LTS version comes out. I do want some of my apps such as Sigil to be bleeding edge, which means PPAs are the best option for me. Please consider this.
