I disagree. Take these lines from Byron:
Maid of Athens, ere we part,
Give, oh, give back my heart!
Or, since that has left my breast,
Keep it now, and take the rest!
Hear my vow before I go,
Zoл mou sas agapo.
Then consider:
Maid of Athens, before we part,
It doesn't scan. It doesn't sound right.
And the palindrome about Napoleon "Able was I ere I saw Elba" wouldn't work either.
