I have all 3 models of the Paperwhite and a Voyage and they all do that every now and then. Not very often. Not even every week. I'm not sure it's even once a month. But it happens to all of them.
I mostly use them with covers so most of the time it happens when I open the cover. Usually I can just close the cover and open it again and it's fine. Sometimes I have to use the button to put it to sleep and wake it up and that fixes it.
I think it's happened a time or two when I wasn't using the cover and just woke them up. I don't remember for sure that's happened but I think it has. I've used them a lot without covers in the past so if it did happen it was very rare.
