It's worth noting that they would be including phones (the fastest growing ereading devices)/tablets using the Kobo app in that mentality.
Personally I would rather use a third party app, but all the major ebook companies want you to use theirs.
Kobo seems to think they are being "open" by supporting apps for several operating systems.
It's to bad they discontinued Kobo Instant Reader (read.kobobooks.com). Then they actually had a case since it worked on all devices that support a modern browser.
