I don't know how to do the image capture on a different OS -
Perhaps GM or NiLuJe does.
Good to know. I wasn't sure about whether the 3G model would call home when you first turn it on or something. Only had WiFi Kindles until now. Running Xubuntu on my Chromebook so I should be okay with the steps, but I'll let you know.
