Over a half century of working with this computer science stuff tends to age a person, sorry about that.

Seriously -
It should be possible to jailbreak the Oasis, once we get someone with a brand new, never powered on, version to help us.
As suggested above, it may be better if you can find a retailer that still has a device from the first factory shipment of the model.
(Ask if they have had that model in-stock since model day #1).

*) yup, but it should also be empty of whatever was causing your problem.

*) It is possible that your jailbreak survived, it isn't something you can see in the visible portion of USB storage.
It will not hurt if you want to re-apply the jailbreak for your device.
