Just a note, the 4-Star review for Death in the Time of Ice is from me. I did like the story, but as I noted in the review:

"... I will admit that I had some trouble with some of the underlying assumptions of the story. The geographic setting, cultural development, and even personal capabilities of the Neandertal tribes in this story are all pretty far leaps from what modern science can support. If you can accept this environment, you'll enjoy the story."

Just be aware in case some scientific free-wheeling will be a problem for you.
