"Despite??" Oh please, the difference is ENTIRELY about the difference in how Apple and Google do things. Any comparison of version adoption between the two is utterly meaningless, unless you're comparing the way they do things.

In any case, despite that meaningless comment, the way Google does things is indeed causing fragmentation, but is that fragmentation causing any real problems for devs or users? The vast majority of apps run equally well on the vast majority of devices, despite version differences.
Even the bulk of incompatibles mostly amount to rather minor missing feature annoyances.
