Maybe that's what my first shih tzu thought. Her female human had died 6 months before I met her dad. He teased me that I was (eventually) "marrying him just to get the dogs" (a shih tzu and a tzu/poodle or something. I've forgotten).

However, when I left him after 3 years, he claimed that the dogs would "miss me" & the second shih tzu I had bought during the marriage. In reality, he wasn't willing to care for them. Letting them sit outside for long periods on a leash, was his technique. I don't think he walked them once while we were married, even when I was ill.

So in the end, I left him but inherited his dogs. And learned a new habit of liking tzus. Those have died since, and I've adopted this one.
