Spoiler:
1920, Cardiff.

The First World War is over and ex-soldier and local man Ed Galber needs a new purpose in life.

As a former professional boxer he has a lot of contacts in the community and decides to set himself up as a private detective.

He has little money, and his old friend Lew lets him rent a small room in his temperance hotel for a pound a week.

Ed doesn’t want to fail again.

He doesn’t want to be a ‘ghost’ in life, like so many other ex-Tommies.

In the grim autumn, Lisa Lorino knocks on his office door.

She is beautiful, and she has an immediate impact.

She wants him to find an army officer, but won’t say why. She just wants to know where Captain Hone is now.

Given a wad of fivers, and captured by her charm, Ed takes the job.

The only definite information about Hone is that he was at Silver Standard camp, out in Carmarthen.

Ed’s quest leads him back home, and to Harry Day, a local businessman.

Ed begins asking too many questions, and soon he is being followed by Day’s men …

Why doesn’t Day want Ed investigating any further?

Has something sinister happened to Hone?

Ed needs to get to the bottom of the matter before his own life is put in jeopardy …
