*Raritan is a common name in New Jersey. There is a Raritan Township in Hunterdon County, and the Raritan river is one of New Jersey's major rivers -- and it is the eastern end of the Delaware and Raritan Canal. "Raritan" apparently derives from the name of a band of Lenape Native Americans who were native to the area.
