I use the desktop version of Pagina epubchecker, and I think it is easier to understand than Flight Crew. Desktop version needs Java installed. If interested, download from here: https://github.com/IDPF/epubcheck

There is also a css validator here: http://www.css-validator.org/
That only looks at the css, nothing else.

The same site will also validate your (x)html: http://validator.w3.org/
