I also read and really enjoyed Wilbur Smith's "River God". I never read any of the others in the series though. Sounds like the last few are skippable ...

Not long ago I read "The Sekhmet Bed" by Libbie Hawker, which is about the childhood of Hatshepsut. It was interesting reading, more for the details about ancient Egyptian life than for the plot.
