Lexie died this morning.
For the last three years she's had a wobbly back. According to the vet it was a neurological problem and nothing could be done about it. As long as we kept her nails trimmed she wouldn't be in much pain, but she had wobbly days and more stable days.
This morning my father heard her use the litter and shortly after she started meowing. Her back legs were paralysed. My parents took her to the weekend vet and they also saw that her front legs were starting to go and her pupils were extremely dilated. Luckily the vet agreed that it was time to let her go. She might have improved a bit but she would be very dependant on getting to her food, water and litter box. With the other symptoms and her other illnesses it was the right choice not to let it drag on.
Luckily we were able to say goodbye and she didn't seem to be in pain. She was mostly annoyed and demanded attention. We've seen this coming for months and I'm glad it all went quickly and comfortably for her.
We probably won't be getting another cat. It's a commitment and with the Family Thing dragging on the future is unclear. We will be donating the food we have to an animal shelter (my mother had ordered €90 worth of food earlier this week), but for now we're going to keep the cat pillows/baskets, litter box and food bowls because you never know.
I'm already missing her immensely.
