I'm curious what "worked in a fashion" means and that a 16% failure rate is OK.

For the conversion, did you do any experimenting with the settings? There are lots of options to fine-tune the conversion, but the defaults usually do a reasonable job.

As to the "lost" 16 books, they are still on the device. The device will attempt to process them each time you connect and disconnect it from a PC. It's likely that only one failed. Unfortunately, the failed book prevents the rest of the batch from being processed. And that means adding books will probably fail later until that book is removed.

Is the book you converted one of the missing books? If so, that might explain the bad conversion. Problems in the book that prevent it being processed by the device might cause problems with the conversion.
