Julius Caesar, the answer is no, there is no way to tell on the website which book has already been downloaded to which device attached to your account. HOWEVER, if you download to the device in your hand, and open the book, it will ask you if you want to go to the latest page. You can at least get to your place in the book. You pretty much can't have two people reading the same book at the same time for this reason.
I have 8 kindle devices, most of which are used by other family members. But, yeah, been there - can't remember which device I was reading something on OR grabbed the device that didn't have my current book.
The one exception is that any time you buy a book, it is automatically sent to download to your primary device, whatever that is. It's usually the first one in the list of your devices.
