This is one I can highly recommend if you have any interest in how the promises made to the freed slaves was completely undermined by gutless politicians. I found it fascinating how much the comprises made by the North to the South in the years immediately following the Civil War led to Jim Crow and the rise of the KKK. There was so much potential to fulfill the promises implicit in America's founding documents to Black Americans that it was heart wrenching to see that it was tossed aside in the name of political expediency. It shows how very little things change over time.
